Every spring we receive hundreds of calls from frustrated homeowners and facilities managers trying to rid themselves of the nightmarish phenomenon called Artillery Fungus. They are always relieved to discover that Everlast Rubber Mulch will end the reign of terror this “evil” creature brings with it. This stuff comes straight from the Little Shop of Horrors, spraying spores all over homes and cars. It is also known as shotgun fungus for good reason. If you never have to deal with this stuff consider yourself lucky as many northern states are plagued by it.
Artillery fungus gets a start in damp beds of decomposing organic matter ie. wood mulch. Mulch is a perfect environment for it to grow. Frequent top dressing of fresh mulch will impede its growth. The fungus eats cellulose and converts it to lignin which it leaves behind for future growth spurts. Eventually, readying its arsenal of sticky brown spores which it shoots onto homes, automobiles, and sheds resulting in a nearly impossible to remove problem that leaves a dark permanent stain behind.
Everlast Rubber Mulch does not contain cellulose or lignin and therefore is not known to support this phenomenon. A copy of the one of the best artillery fungus studies is available inside our website.
