Rubber Mulch

How Install Rubber Mulch in Your Landscape

1. Remove any excess mulch from your beds and use existing mulch to level the beds. You will get the best coverage over a pre-leveled bed. It is not necessary to remove shredded wood mulch but it is recommended to remove large pine bark nuggets to keep them from mixing. You may want to pull any wood mulch away from your foundation at least 18″ to remove any conduit for termites.

2. Remove any material along a sidewalk or bed edge to insure that the finished height of your rubber mulched beds is not higher than the lawn or sidewalk to cut down on migration of the material.

2. Some microscopic weed seed already in the ground will germinate after you mulch. Apply a pre-emergent to kill the seeds before installing Everlast rubber mulch. This is especially important if your beds have been bare for a while or there have been a lot of weeds prior to your project.

3. If you do not apply a pre-emergent expect that some of the weed seed already present will germinate in a few weeks due to the added moisture retention and warmth in your freshly mulched beds. In a few weeks treat any new weeds with a “Round Up” type product.

4. Once the weed seed is eradicated from the soil you can expect a 95% or better reduction in weed growth. We recommend a 2″ depth to insure that airborne weed seed is caught in the dry rubber mulch and dehydrates. Everlast Rubber Landscape Mulch is designed to be the weed barrier.

Very Important: If you intend to install rubber mulch or wood mulch over existing turf. Remove turf or kill all the grass before installing any mulch product. At a bare minimum apply weed killer a week or more prior to laying mulch. Two applications of the weed killer for best results.

5. CAUTION: INSTALLING A WEED BARRIER, PLASTIC, OR SIMILAR WILL COLLECT SOIL ON TOP OF THE BARRIER OVER TIME AND HOLD MOISTURE AT THE SURFACE, INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF SEED THAT CAN GERMINATE. IN MOST APPLICATIONS, SUCH PRODUCTS WILL INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE NECESSARY TO KEEP YOUR BEDS WEED-FREE.
